DAILY COURIER – The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent pension payment system, assuring retirees that they no longer require personal connections or lobbying to access their entitlements.
The Director-General of the Kogi State Pension Commission, Mariam Abedo, made this known during an exclusive chat with the Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, who paid a courtesy visit to her office in Lokoja.
Abedo explained that the government had introduced a technology-driven payment system designed to enhance efficiency and fairness. She stated that once a retiree’s documentation is complete, their payment is processed without interference.
*"We currently process over 200 retirees daily. The system ensures that once all necessary documentation is in place, payment is made without any influence,"* she emphasized.
She also highlighted that pension arrears in the state had been significantly reduced, as the government consistently made funds available to meet retirees' obligations.
According to Abedo, the introduction of transparency and accountability in the commission’s operations has made the pension payment process smoother and more reliable.
She further cautioned retirees against falling victim to fraudulent individuals who falsely claim they can facilitate pension payments, stressing that all benefits are processed strictly on merit.
Commending Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritizing the welfare of pensioners, Abedo reassured retirees that payments would continue as long as funds were available.
The development is expected to bring relief to pensioners in Kogi State, who have long struggled with delays and bureaucratic bottlenecks in accessing their benefits.
