DAILY COURIER - The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially named Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Senator Bassey Otu, as the Chairman of its Primary Election Committee for the upcoming 2025 Anambra State gubernatorial election, underscoring the party’s commitment to a credible and transparent primary process in the Southeast state.
Governor Otu, a respected administrator and seasoned lawmaker, will lead a seven-member committee tasked with overseeing the party’s internal election to choose its flagbearer ahead of the crucial November governorship poll in Anambra.
Joining him on the Primary Election Committee is Ekiti State Governor, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, who will serve as Deputy Chairman. Other members include Hon. Akintunde Adegboye, Hon. Abacha Mallam Kadai, Barr. Ada Ogbu, Hon. Ibrahim Jirgi, and Senator Joshua Lidani, who will serve as Secretary of the committee.
The announcement was made through an official communication from the APC national secretariat, signaling the party’s readiness to conduct a hitch-free and widely accepted primary election in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
In a related development, the party also unveiled the Primary Election Appeal Committee, which will be chaired by Rabiu Suleiman Bichi. Members of the Appeal Committee include Comrade Tosin Adeyanji, Dr. Edward Ihejirika, Hon. Shehu Shettima, with Hon. Fafowora Folarin appointed as Secretary.
The Secretariat to support both the Primary Election and Appeal Committees comprises a 12-member team drawn from various departments of the APC. It includes Sani D. Galadima, Comrade Isah Daniel, Stanley Ugboaja Ph.D, Joy Akang, Ahmed Musa Gaidam, Marwan Ishaq, Baba Ali Dauda, Umoren Ekpedeme Akpan, Ogadinma Jane Nwosu, Ikpe Jane, Adamu Ahmed Doma, and Isah Abdullahi Gulma.
Party insiders view the appointment of Governor Otu as a strategic move to bolster confidence in the process, given his calm leadership style and reputation for fairness. His leadership is expected to bring credibility to a process that is closely watched both within and outside the state, as the APC seeks to deepen its political footprint in the Southeast.
The 2025 Anambra governorship election presents a major opportunity for the APC to build on its gains and present a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which has held sway in the state since 2006.
The APC national leadership has urged all aspirants and stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committees to ensure a transparent, peaceful, and successful primary election.
