DAILY COURIER - The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a public advisory, warning Nigerians to avoid unauthorized websites for modifying their National Identification Number (NIN) data. The Commission emphasized that all NIN modifications should only be conducted through its official Self-Service Modification Portal: [selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng](https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng).
In a statement released on March 10, 2025, the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, assured Nigerians that the official portal is secure, protecting users from identity theft and data breaches. He cautioned that attempting to modify NIN details on unverified platforms could compromise personal information, leading to potential security risks.
NIMC highlighted the convenience of the new Self-Service Modification Portal, which allows citizens to update their details from anywhere at any time, ensuring a more efficient and secure process.
The Commission urged Nigerians to always verify sources before submitting their personal data online. It also directed individuals with inquiries to visit the NIMC website at [www.nimc.gov.ng](https://www.nimc.gov.ng), email nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng, or call the customer care line at 0700-225-564-62 for further assistance.
NIMC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national identity data and providing seamless services for all Nigerians.
