DAILY COURIER - In a bid to strengthen the fight against crime and ensure the safety of residents, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called for improved collaboration among security agencies operating in the state. The governor emphasized the need for a unified approach to tackle criminal activities and uphold the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on crime.
According to a statement today by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo made the call during a high-level meeting held at the Government House in Lokoja, which brought together Local Government Chairmen, members of the state’s vigilante service, and professional hunters. The meeting focused on devising new strategies to enhance community safety, improve coordination among security agencies, and reinforce the role of local stakeholders in combating crime.
In his address, Governor Ododo stressed the importance of synergy between local government chairmen, community leaders, and security operatives to create a safer environment for citizens. He highlighted the critical role of grassroots security efforts, particularly in remote areas where the presence of conventional security agencies may be limited.
“The security of lives and property remains a top priority for this administration. We must work together, leveraging the strengths of all stakeholders, to ensure that Kogi State remains a safe haven for its residents,” Governor Ododo stated.
The governor’s initiative to engage local government officials, vigilante groups, and professional hunters has been widely commended. Tosin Olokun, Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area and the state Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), described the move as a crucial step in enhancing grassroots security efforts.
“Governor Ododo’s approach to involving local government officials, vigilantes, and professional hunters is a game-changer in our fight against crime. It fosters synergy and ensures that even the most remote areas are adequately protected,” Olokun remarked.
The Kogi State government has recently reengineered the vigilante service and professional hunters, positioning them as key players in maintaining security at the grassroots level. Enhanced welfare packages have also been introduced to address operational challenges and boost the morale of security operatives.
This renewed focus on grassroots security is part of the state government’s broader strategy to combat crime and ensure the safety of its citizens.
