DAILY COURIER — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has strongly debunked a viral video making the rounds on social media, describing it as false, misleading, and likely generated by artificial intelligence (AI).
In a statement released on Friday and signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC disclaimed any involvement in a purported video interview alleging its role in security actions related to the supposed assassination of one Kingsley Ekweme.
Ogungbemide clarified that the Corps did not release any statement or participate in any media engagement concerning the alleged incident. He further noted that the fabricated video falsely portrayed him as speaking on matters beyond the statutory mandate of the Corps.
“It is the position of the Corps to inform the public that the video is entirely false, misleading, and fabricated. The FRSC did not issue any statement or comment on any alleged assassination, and I did not participate in any video or interview regarding the matter,” the statement read.
The FRSC emphasized that its operations remain strictly within its legal responsibilities, primarily road safety administration and traffic management. It warned against the deliberate spread of misinformation and fake news that could mislead the public and damage the institution’s credibility.
Ogungbemide urged members of the public to disregard the fake video and remain vigilant against deceptive content online. He also assured that the Corps remains committed to transparency and the dissemination of accurate information in line with its vision and mission.
The statement concluded with a stern warning that the FRSC would not hesitate to pursue legal action against individuals or entities responsible for fabricating and circulating false information about its operations.
The Corps expressed appreciation for the public’s continued understanding and cooperation on the matter.
