DAILY COURIER - In a significant reshuffle, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassigned key members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) as board chairmen of federal institutions. The latest appointments reflect the administration’s strategic efforts to position experienced political leaders in critical sectors of governance.
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, who was initially appointed as the Board Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, has now been reassigned as the Board Chairman of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Morka, a seasoned legal practitioner and media strategist, played a pivotal role in shaping the party’s public relations and communication strategies. His new position at NTA is expected to enhance the federal government’s engagement with the public and improve media operations in the country.
Similarly, Chief Emma Eneukwu, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, has been moved from his previous role as Board Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, to head the National Automotive Development Council (NADC). His vast political experience is anticipated to help drive policies that will strengthen local automotive manufacturing and reduce the country’s dependence on imported vehicles.
Other APC National Working Committee members who received board appointments include Hon. Donatus Nwankpa from Abia State, who has been named Board Chairman of the Project Development Institute (PRODA). Nwankpa, a veteran politician, is expected to bring his leadership experience to the agency’s research and development efforts.
Additionally, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the APC State Chairman for Adamawa State, has been appointed as Board Chairman of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). His appointment aligns with the administration’s commitment to tackling human trafficking and enhancing national security efforts.
President Tinubu’s appointments extend beyond the APC National Working Committee, with numerous APC state chairmen also being assigned leadership positions across federal institutions. Notable appointees include Mallam Muhammad Massan (APC Bauchi) as Board Chairman of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Ilorin, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas (APC Kano) as Board Chairman of the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service, and Dr. Austian Agada (APC Benue) as Board Chairman of the National Agricultural Seed Council.
Hon. Macdonald Ebere (APC Imo) has been appointed as Board Chairman of the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos, while Ubong Stephen Ntukekpo (APC Akwa Ibom) will oversee the National Institute for Freshwater Fish, New Bussa. Aminu Musa Bobi (APC Niger) has been named Board Chairman of the National Library of Nigeria, and Pharm. Abass Olayide (APC Oyo) will chair the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Kaduna.
The appointments also see Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka (APC Yobe) heading the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Benjamin Omale (APC Benue) taking charge of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu, and Rufus Bature (APC Plateau) assuming the role of Board Chairman of the Nigerian Coal Corporation.
These reassignments reinforce the administration’s commitment to leveraging the expertise of APC leaders to drive governance and institutional reforms. The newly appointed board chairmen are expected to implement policies that will enhance efficiency and service delivery within their respective institutions.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, in a statement announcing the appointments, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that strategic institutions are led by competent and experienced individuals to foster national development.
