DAILY COURIER – The First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has recognized the remarkable resilience and determination of women in challenging gender stereotypes and advocating for their rights. She made this known in her message to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD), themed "Accelerate Action," in Lokoja, the state capital.
Hajia Ododo highlighted the significance of the celebration, acknowledging the progress made so far while emphasizing the need for more efforts to ensure that women and girls enjoy equal opportunities and rights.
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, I join women and girls across Kogi State and the world in commemorating our collective progress, resilience, and determination. This year’s theme reminds me of the need to continue striving for a world where women and girls have equal opportunities, rights, and freedoms,” she stated.
Reaffirming her commitment to championing initiatives that promote education, economic empowerment, and social justice for women in Kogi State, the First Lady also underscored the importance of strengthening advocacy against gender-based violence.
She urged increased support for women in all aspects of life, stressing that they should be given a level playing field to succeed without intimidation, suppression, or violence.
“Let us continue to lift each other up, support each other’s dreams, and demand a world that values and respects the contributions of women and girls to the development of our dear state and country,” she said.
Hajia Ododo further stressed that the 2025 IWD theme calls for concrete actions beyond words from the government and stakeholders to create a just and equitable society where women and girls can thrive.
While commending Kogi women for their contributions, she paid tribute to those making a difference in their communities, describing them as unsung heroes.
“I celebrate the women who wake up every day to make a difference—the entrepreneurs, the caregivers, and the leaders who inspire younger generations,” she added.
The Kogi First Lady’s message aligns with the global call for accelerated action toward gender equality, reinforcing her administration’s resolve to champion women’s empowerment across the state.
