DAILY COURIER – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sanctioned the Ondo State Sector Commander following the circulation of a viral video showing an FRSC patrol vehicle operating with a worn-out tyre, a violation of the Corps’ strict safety standards.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 9, 2025, the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, described the incident as a “complete negation” of FRSC’s core values and standard operating procedures regarding maximum safety standards for operational and administrative vehicles.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, condemned the act, emphasizing that the FRSC has zero tolerance for any breach of safety protocols. He immediately ordered sanctions against the Sector Commander under whose jurisdiction the safety lapse occurred. Additionally, he directed that the vehicle be booked for the violation and that the Sector Commander personally pay the fines for negligence.
“The FRSC does not condone any compromise on its core values, and we remain committed to upholding the highest standards in vehicle maintenance and safety enforcement,” Mohammed stated.
The Corps acknowledged the role of the public in holding agencies accountable and reassured Nigerians of its commitment to ensuring that all FRSC vehicles adhere to the same strict safety standards imposed on other road users.
The statement further reiterated that the FRSC remains a leader among Nigerian agencies in maintaining high safety and operational standards. It assured the public that the Corps management would continue to oversee field commands with diligence, expecting all commanding officers to uphold the ideals of the FRSC.
This latest disciplinary action underscores the FRSC’s resolve to lead by example in road safety enforcement, ensuring that its personnel and vehicles meet the same standards it demands from the motoring public.
