DAILY COURIER - The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has made significant strides in combating vehicle theft in Nigeria, recovering 73 stolen vehicles in 2024 through the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Portal.
This breakthrough, achieved in collaboration with security agencies, underscores FRSC’s commitment to national security, intelligence gathering, and the protection of lives and properties. The stolen vehicles were intercepted during registration attempts, a move that has dealt a severe blow to car theft syndicates across the country.
A breakdown of the recovered vehicles shows a high incidence of Toyota models being targeted by criminals. The list includes: 21 Toyota Corolla, 17 Toyota Camry, 6 Toyota Sienna, 6 Lexus 350, 4 Toyota Highlander, 3 Lexus ES350, 1 Toyota Lexus, 1 Toyota Hilux, 1 Toyota RAV4, 1 Toyota Celica, and 1 Toyota Venza.
Additionally, other recovered vehicles include a Suzuki Bus, Honda Pilot, Honda Ace, two Honda Accords, a Daihatsu, a Mercedes-Benz car, a MAN Truck, a Pontiac Vibe, and two Qlink motorcycles.
Commending FRSC personnel for their professionalism and dedication, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized the Corps’ resolve to curb criminal activities through proactive intelligence sharing and swift response measures.
“The FRSC remains committed to ensuring that road users are safe and that criminal elements are eliminated from our motoring environment. These recoveries reaffirm our dedication to national security and protecting the economic interests of Nigerians,” he stated.
The Corps Marshal urged vehicle owners to ensure accurate and complete documentation when registering their vehicles. He stressed that detailed records aid intelligence gathering and facilitate faster recovery of stolen vehicles.
Reaffirming the FRSC’s dedication to road safety and crime prevention, Mohammed called on the public to support the Corps in its mission to make Nigerian roads safer. He assured Nigerians that FRSC would continue to adopt innovative measures to enhance road security and reduce criminal activities.
As the FRSC continues to push boundaries in road safety management, crash prevention, and crime intelligence, the agency’s efforts provide renewed hope for a safer and more secure motoring environment in Nigeria.
