DAILY COURIER – In a resounding address during the maiden 2025 Corps Marshal’s parade held at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) National Headquarters in Abuja, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed charged staff to maintain the high productivity levels achieved in 2024 while promising to reward excellence and dedication in service delivery.
The event, according to a statement today by the Corp's spokesperson Oluwasegun Ogungbemide, marked the first official gathering of the year, underscored the Corps Marshal’s commitment to staff welfare, capacity development, and technological advancement as key pillars of his leadership agenda.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the FRSC workforce for their resilience and commitment in 2024, particularly during the end-of-year special patrol operations, which significantly improved road safety and traffic management during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. “With your tenacity, we were able to contain traffic management challenges and create a safer road environment for all travelers,” he stated.
However, he urged staff not to rest on their laurels, emphasizing the need to raise the bar of productivity in 2025. He assured that staff who demonstrate excellence in their duties would be duly rewarded, while those found wanting in performance or discipline would face appropriate consequences. “You must be prepared to respond appropriately to instructions, show excellence in your work, and avoid acts of indiscipline, including rumor-mongering and indolence,” he warned.
The Corps Marshal’s promise to reward exemplary service resonated strongly with staff, many of whom expressed optimism about the year ahead. “This year will be more productive, rewarding, and glorious for all staff,” said one officer shortly after the parade. The assurance of recognition and rewards for outstanding performance is expected to motivate staff to uphold the Corps’ values and strive for excellence in their duties.
In line with his vision to create a conducive working environment, the Corps Marshal outlined several welfare initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for FRSC personnel. He revealed that the FRSC Staff Cooperative Scheme and the FRSC Housing Cooperative are being strengthened to better meet staff needs. Additionally, arrangements are underway with reputable housing developers to provide affordable housing for staff.
In a significant move, the Corps Marshal announced the completion of plans for the FRSC to operate its own Healthcare Management Organization (HMO). This initiative is expected to provide staff and their families with access to qualitative healthcare services, thereby improving overall health conditions within the Corps.
The Corps Marshal also highlighted the importance of embracing technological innovations to enhance the FRSC’s operational efficiency. He encouraged staff to download the FRSC Mobile App, launched in 2024, to stay informed about the Corps’ technical advancements and to educate the public on road safety measures.
Furthermore, he reiterated the Corps’ commitment to digitization, urging staff to improve their computer literacy skills. “Very soon, the use of paper may become obsolete in most administrative and operational activities,” he said, adding that every office would be equipped with computers to facilitate a seamless transition to digital operations.
Addressing concerns about career progression, the Corps Marshal assured staff that promotion exercises for 2025 would commence soon, starting with vacancies at the Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) level. He emphasized that the process would be thorough and transparent to ensure no backlog in promotions, thereby fostering a sense of fairness and motivation among staff.
As the FRSC prepares to celebrate its 37th anniversary on February 18, 2025, the Corps Marshal congratulated staff for upholding the values envisioned by the organization’s founding fathers. He vowed to sustain the legacy of service delivery and called on all staff to join hands in making the FRSC a global example of a high-performance organization.
The Corps Marshal’s address concluded with a reaffirmation of his commitment to the ideals of the FRSC. He assured staff that no one would be denied their entitlements, and proper recognition would be given to achievements made in the course of official duties. “All necessary steps will be taken to give staff a sense of responsibility and pride,” he declared.
The parade ended on a high note, with staff offering three hearty cheers to the Corps Marshal, symbolizing their collective optimism and readiness to embrace the challenges and opportunities of 2025.
