DAILY COURIER – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has received heartfelt condolences from Aare Tolu Bankole, a member of the APC National Working Committee, following the sudden demise of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives.
In a condolence message, Aare Tolu Bankole expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the distinguished legislator, describing her as a steadfast and loyal party member whose service and dedication to the APC and the nation were exemplary.
Rt. Hon. Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State, passed away on January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. She was widely respected for her legislative acumen, her unwavering advocacy for women, and her commitment to fostering social development.
As Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Onanuga played a pivotal role in maintaining legislative harmony and discipline, which earned her the admiration of her colleagues. Her legislative career also included serving as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development during the 9th Assembly, where she championed policies that improved the welfare of Nigerian women and vulnerable groups.
In his statement, Bankole highlighted Onanuga’s critical contributions to parliamentary proceedings and her ability to inspire excellence in governance. “Her wealth of experience, intellect, and courage left an indelible mark on the House,” he noted.
Describing her as a beacon of excellence, Bankole emphasized her deep commitment to public service and her tireless efforts in addressing the needs of her constituents. "The APC family, and indeed the nation, has lost a remarkable leader and a true patriot whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians and party members," he added.
The APC National Chairman, along with the party leadership, has pledged to honor the memory of Rt. Hon. Onanuga by upholding the values she represented. As the nation mourns, tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, political associates, and her constituents, all reflecting her dedication and impact.
The funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by her family.
