DAILY COURIER - The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) reached a significant milestone on January 23, 2025, with the successful adoption of its constitution during a special Congress session in Abuja. This marks a transformative step in enhancing the governance structure of the association and ensuring its activities are guided by a well-defined framework.
The preamble of the newly adopted constitution encapsulates its essence:
"We, the members of ASSOCIATION OF CORPORATE ONLINE EDITORS (ACOE), a non-political organisation, do firmly and solemnly resolve to provide for ourselves a constitution and to be governed by the provisions therein contained."
The 18-page document, comprising 34 articles, is the product of the tireless efforts of a Constitution Drafting Committee inaugurated on June 13, 2024. The committee, chaired by veteran journalist Nnamdi Okosieme, included Chidi Ugwu, Queen Kunde (Secretary), Chux Ukwuatu, and Osby Isibor. The team worked meticulously to create an inclusive document reflective of the association's values and aspirations.
After a detailed and exhaustive deliberation by members present at the Congress, the motion for adoption was moved by Frederick Idehai and seconded by Emmanuel Onuh receiving unanimous support from the assembly.
In his remarks, ACOE Chairman, Mr. Martins Odiete, expressed profound appreciation for the drafting committee’s exceptional work and commitment. He described the adoption as a significant step towards strengthening the association’s governance framework, fostering unity, and ensuring transparency in its operations.
“This constitution is a testament to our shared commitment to uphold the principles of ethical journalism and unity within our ranks. I commend the drafting committee for their diligence and dedication in delivering a document that reflects the aspirations of ACOE. Copies of the constitution will be distributed to all members as a guide for our collective progress,” Mr. Odiete stated.
The announcement was met with enthusiasm and a sense of accomplishment among members in attendance, who celebrated the development as a historic moment for the association.
The adoption of the constitution not only consolidates ACOE’s standing as a leading body for online editors in Nigeria but also sets the foundation for its continued growth and influence in shaping the media landscape.
This landmark achievement reinforces ACOE’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the promotion of journalistic excellence, further solidifying its role as a critical voice in Nigeria’s evolving media industry.
