DAILY COURIER – Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, departed Abuja this morning for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to attend the opening ceremony of the International Exhibition of Extractive and Energy Resources (SIREXE) 2024.
The event, which runs from November 27 to December 2, is a globally significant forum aimed at addressing policies and strategies for the sustainable development of the extractive and energy industries.
The exhibition, organized by the Government of Côte d’Ivoire, is being held at the Abidjan Exhibition Centre. It gathers global stakeholders, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss sustainable practices in the energy and extractive sectors, particularly in the face of growing environmental and economic challenges.
The theme of SIREXE 2024, “Policies and Strategies for the Sustainable Development of the Extractive and Energy Industries,” reflects the urgency of balancing energy demands with environmental responsibility.
On the invitation of Côte d’Ivoire’s Vice President, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, Vice President Shettima is set to represent Nigeria and share the nation’s successes and insights in hydrocarbon exploration and production.
Nigeria, one of Africa’s leading oil-producing nations, has gained extensive experience in hydrocarbon exploration, resource management, and energy diversification. Vice President Shettima is expected to emphasize Nigeria’s achievements in adopting sustainable practices, leveraging advanced technology, and implementing policies aimed at improving energy security while reducing environmental impacts.
The Vice President’s visit also underscores the importance of Nigeria’s partnership with Côte d’Ivoire and other African nations in driving regional collaboration in the energy sector. His participation signals Nigeria’s commitment to fostering shared strategies for growth and sustainability in Africa’s extractive and energy industries.
Vice President Shettima is scheduled to return to Abuja later today after fulfilling his diplomatic and leadership responsibilities at the opening ceremony.
