DAILY COURIER — Ahead of the Ondo State gubernatorial election set for November 16, 2024, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the deployment of 1,500 personnel to ensure a smooth electoral process.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, approved the deployment and ordered FRSC operatives to work in close collaboration with other security agencies to enforce compliance with vehicular movement restrictions across the state on election day.
According to a statement issued by Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide on Thursday, November 14, 2024, the deployed FRSC personnel are tasked with several key responsibilities. These include clearing any road obstructions, performing rescue operations in the event of emergencies, and maintaining orderliness around polling units.
To support these efforts, the FRSC has mobilized an array of operational tools, including 25 patrol vehicles, 7 tow trucks, and 6 ambulances, which will be stationed across strategic locations in Ondo State. These resources will help the Corps enforce movement restrictions efficiently and respond swiftly to any incidents that may occur during the election.
In his address to the deployed personnel, Corps Marshal Mohammed emphasized the need for the FRSC officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while carrying out their duties. He specifically advised them to avoid any actions that could infringe upon the rights of voters and reminded them of their critical role in supporting a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process.
"This deployment is part of our commitment to national service, ensuring that the electoral process is conducted smoothly and without disruptions," Mohammed stated. He called on the officers to actively support the democratic exercise, reminding them that their contributions were vital to public confidence in the security and fairness of the election.
The FRSC’s collaboration with other security agencies highlights a unified approach to securing Ondo State during this pivotal event, helping maintain a safe environment for voters to exercise their democratic rights. As Ondo State voters prepare to head to the polls, the FRSC’s presence underscores its dedication to public safety, with a focus on preventing road-related incidents and ensuring an orderly electoral process.
