DAILY COURIER - The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has praised the FRSC rescue team for their swift and commendable actions in recovering ₦8,620,000 from a road traffic crash scene in Kaduna State. The accident occurred on the evening of September 30, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at Area G, Samaru, along the Zaria-Funtua road.
According to the Commission's Spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the crash involved a Ford pickup truck belonging to the Nigerian Army, with registration number FST 134FX, traveling toward Funtua. The incident was caused by a Toyota Corolla, red in color, with registration number KTN 316 HK, which lost control due to speeding and collided with the Army vehicle. The investigation revealed that the driver of the Toyota Corolla exceeded the legal speed limit, leading to the crash.
The accident resulted in three people being involved, with two sustaining various degrees of injuries. They were immediately transported to Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Shika, for medical treatment, while one victim was fortunate to escape without injuries.
During the rescue operation, FRSC personnel discovered and recovered ₦8.6 million at the crash site, ensuring the money was secured and returned to its rightful owners. The Corps Marshal lauded the rescue team for maintaining the Corps' integrity and professionalism during the operation, emphasizing the FRSC's commitment to preserving the legacy of its founding fathers.
Shehu Mohammed further highlighted the dangers of speeding, which continues to be a leading cause of road accidents, fatalities, and injuries across Nigeria. He called on all motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The Corps Marshal also reiterated the FRSC's commitment to upholding high standards in road safety and rescue operations, urging officers to continue their dedication to saving lives and ensuring the safety of all road users.
