DAILY COURIER – As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Anniversary, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged motorists across the country to maintain positive driving behaviors and adhere strictly to traffic rules to ensure the safety of lives and property during the celebrations.
In a press statement released on Monday, September 30, 2024 by Corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, called on all road users to embrace responsible driving practices, emphasizing the importance of avoiding negative driving habits that could endanger others. His message aligns with the FRSC's ongoing efforts to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and prevent accidents during the holiday period.
Mohammed noted that the country’s independence celebration is a cherished occasion, marked by various festivities, and highlighted the Corps' commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens during this time. "The Federal Road Safety Corps warmly aligns with the entire nation in celebrating this historic moment, and we are fully prepared to ensure that road users experience a safe and crash-free Independence Day celebration," he stated.
The Corps Marshal reiterated the importance of motorists exercising caution on the roads, applying all safety measures to prevent crashes. He also assured the public that the FRSC has deployed its operational resources across traffic-prone areas to ensure the smooth movement of people and goods.
“To forestall all incidents of mishaps on the road, I have directed Commanding Officers across the country to ensure the full deployment of personnel and logistics for high visibility, prompt removal of obstructions, and effective traffic management,” he said.
In addition to deploying its workforce, Mohammed called on the public to make use of the FRSC's toll-free numbers, 122, and the FRSC Mobile App to report any road emergencies, crashes, or obstructions for prompt intervention by the Corps.
He concluded by wishing all Nigerians a peaceful and safe Independence Day celebration, urging everyone to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure smooth and secure festivities on the nation’s roads.
