DAILY COURIER - A prominent chieftain of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to remain steadfast in their commitment to the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
In a statement made available to Daily Courier, Isiguzoro praised Tinubu for his strong leadership and political will in advancing the ambitious infrastructure project.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, valued at N15.6 trillion, is expected to drive significant economic growth and social development, benefiting millions of Nigerians. Isiguzoro dismissed criticisms against the project, particularly comments attributed to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who reportedly described it as wasteful and a misplacement of priorities.
The Ohaneze chieftain argued that such remarks were misguided and likely fueled by envy. He urged Ndigbo to disregard Obasanjo’s stance, alleging that it was a strategic attempt to undermine Tinubu’s re-election prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
Isiguzoro further claimed that Obasanjo and opposition figures were deliberately seeking to discredit Tinubu’s administration and its achievements. He emphasized that the Lagos-Calabar highway is a transformative project that will redefine Nigeria’s infrastructural landscape. Commending Minister David Umahi for his exemplary leadership and engineering expertise, Isiguzoro warned that any attempts to undermine the project or its execution would be met with strong resistance.
He asserted that such opposition stemmed from fears that the infrastructural strides of Tinubu’s government might surpass those of previous administrations, particularly Obasanjo's.
