DAILY COURIER – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims circulating in the media that it will resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and the replacement of lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) on May 27, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, by Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, the Commission described the report as "misleading" and "untrue." INEC emphasized that no date has been set for the resumption of voter registration activities and urged the public to disregard the false information.
“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a misleading report making the rounds, that we will resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) on 27th May 2025. The report is untrue. The Commission has not announced any resumption date for the CVR,” the statement read.
The clarification comes amid growing anticipation over voter registration ahead of upcoming elections. Many Nigerians have been eager for INEC to restart the process to enable eligible voters, particularly those who have reached voting age or relocated, to obtain their PVCs.
While INEC did not specify when the CVR exercise would commence, the Commission reassured the public that any official announcement would be made through its verified channels.
Political analysts have urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against misinformation and rely on official INEC statements for accurate updates on electoral processes.
The CVR is a crucial aspect of Nigeria’s electoral process, allowing citizens to register for voting, update their details, and replace lost or damaged PVCs. The suspension of the exercise since the conclusion of the last general election has left many awaiting its resumption.
INEC has consistently emphasized its commitment to free, fair, and credible elections, urging citizens to engage responsibly with electoral information.
