He stressed that tourism holds immense economic potential, as seen in nations that have successfully diversified their economies beyond oil dependency.
“Tourism is a vital source of revenue, and we are determined to push the frontiers of its development in Ogun State. Olumo Rock, as our foremost tourist attraction, will receive the necessary uplift to attract both local and international visitors,” he said.
Preserving Ogun State’s Heritage
The governor expressed concern about the potential deterioration of heritage sites if they are not properly restored, maintained, and protected. He underscored the importance of these historical landmarks as a link between the past and the present, ensuring that the rich traditions of Ogun State are preserved for future generations.
Governor Abiodun also appreciated those who have worked tirelessly to maintain Olumo Rock over the years, assuring them that the state government is now fully committed to giving it the best attention and upgrade it deserves.
Plans for Tourism Development
The governor announced that his administration has already identified key areas for improvement at the site and will soon develop a comprehensive plan to enhance its facilities and overall visitor experience. The goal is to position Ogun State as a major tourism hub in Nigeria.
“We are prioritizing tourism as part of our development agenda, just as we have done with infrastructure, education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, social development, and agriculture,” he added.
With this renewed focus on tourism, the Ogun State government aims to attract more investors and visitors, boost local businesses, and create more job opportunities for residents, ensuring that tourism becomes a major contributor to the state’s economy.
