In a statement marking this year’s World Radio Day, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring representation for all segments of society.
The governor, according to a statement issued today by his spokesperson Ismaila Isah, acknowledged radio as a critical platform for deepening democratic values, educating the public, and fostering national unity. He emphasized that his government has taken deliberate steps to include youth, women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from diverse ethnic, religious, and political backgrounds in decision-making processes.
“I am delighted to join the rest of the world in celebrating this year’s World Radio Day. As your Governor, I recognize the immense contribution of radio to our state's development and the nation at large. Radio has been a trusted companion to millions of people around the world, providing news, entertainment, and education. It has been a powerful tool for social change, promoting understanding and empathy, and providing a platform for all voices to be heard,” Ododo stated.
Reflecting on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Radio and Climate Change,” Governor Ododo underscored the importance of radio in raising awareness about environmental issues, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting communities vulnerable to climate-related challenges.
He noted that radio’s ability to reach a wide audience, transcend geographical boundaries, and amplify diverse voices makes it an indispensable tool for driving climate action.
“Our investment in climate-resilient agricultural practices and sustainable development, as well as the priority we place on expanding access to information through broadcasting and radio in particular, resonate with this year’s theme,” he said.
Governor Ododo reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting the growth and development of the radio industry, recognizing its potential to enhance transparency, accountability, and good governance.
“Radio has also been a powerful tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance by providing vital information and education on health, security, economic development, and education,” he added.
The governor further stressed that radio remains instrumental in fostering economic growth and social cohesion by ensuring that diverse voices are heard and represented.
As Kogi State joins the rest of the world in marking World Radio Day 2025, Governor Ododo assured citizens of his administration’s unwavering support for policies and initiatives that strengthen the role of radio in development, democracy, and public enlightenment.
