DAILY COURIER – The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has agreed to restore power supply to the University College Hospital, Ibadan within 48 hours.
This follows a meeting held Monday by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the management of UCH and IBEDC.
However, the meeting resolved that the business outlets of the hospital including banks and the residential buildings would be disconnected for now.
Earlier some medical students of the university protested the power outage at UCH during a visit of the Minister to the hospital.
DAILY COURIER reports that the IBEDC disconnected UCH from the national grid on Oct. 27 due to accumulated debts.
Displaying placards with inscriptions such as “We are tired of 100 days of darkness; Save UCH” among others, the students expressed their grievances, saying the power outage had disrupted academic and clinical activities.
Earlier on March 19, 2024, the disco cut off the power supply to the hospital over N495 million debt. The power supply was later restored when prominent indigenes of Ibadan and other stakeholders intervened.
