DAILY COURIER – The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has strongly denied rumours suggesting she has resigned from her position.
Reacting to the speculation on Wednesday, her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, dismissed the claims as false and baseless. He reassured the public that the Speaker remains in office and continues to discharge her duties effectively.
“A Lie from the Pit of Hell”
“I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ajiboye stated, refuting the resignation claims.
He further emphasized: “It is a lie from the pit of hell. There is no truth in the story. I am doing my work as the CPS, the Speaker is in her office as we speak, and everybody is going about their business. We do not know where the story is coming from. The Speaker has not resigned, and there is no plan for that.”
Fake Resignation Letter Circulates Online
A purported resignation letter dated February 17, 2025, allegedly written by Meranda, has been making rounds on social media for two days. However, scrutiny of the document revealed that it lacked an official signature, raising doubts about its authenticity.
Political Crisis in Lagos Assembly
The Lagos State House of Assembly has been experiencing leadership turbulence since the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. The transition of power has sparked political intrigues and speculations, with Meranda’s position coming under scrutiny amid the crisis.
Despite the tension, Meranda remains resolute in leading the Assembly, dismissing distractions while focusing on legislative responsibilities.
Observers suggest that the resignation rumour is part of ongoing political maneuvers within the state legislature, with various factions seeking to influence the assembly’s leadership structure.
As the situation unfolds, stakeholders continue to watch developments closely, awaiting any official reactions from other key political players in Lagos State.
