DAILY COURIER – The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, is currently attending the 4th Inter-Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, Morocco. The high-profile global conference, themed 'Commit to Life', is scheduled to take place from February 18 to 20, 2025.
As part of the conference’s first-day activities, the Corps Marshal participated in a World Bank-organized meeting with Global Heads of Road Safety Agencies from across the world. The meeting provided a platform for road safety leaders to discuss best practices and strategies for improving road safety on a global scale.
Additionally, Corps Marshal Mohammed attended the opening meeting of the African Ministers of Transport, where key discussions were held on enhancing road infrastructure, policy-making, and collaborative efforts to mitigate road accidents in Africa.
In a significant development, the Corps Marshal witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) and the West African Road Safety Organization (WARSO). The MoU aims to enhance the safety ratings of roads across West Africa, a move expected to reduce road crashes and improve transportation efficiency in the region.
Notably, the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, a staunch advocate for road safety, is also in attendance. Through her road safety non-governmental organization, Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand (KRSD), she has been a key voice in promoting safe road practices. The presence of such high-profile delegates underscores the significance of the conference in shaping future road safety policies worldwide.
The 4th Inter-Ministerial Conference on Road Safety has drawn thousands of delegates from different countries, reaffirming the global commitment to reducing road accidents and fatalities.
