DAILY COURIER – The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from reports of an alleged inauguration of a 'Leadership Council' in the Delta State chapter of the party. In a statement issued today, the NWC clarified that it had not granted any approval for such a council, stressing that the purported body is not recognized within the party’s constitutional framework.
The statement, signed by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the claim that the National Leadership sanctioned the inauguration as misleading. The NWC reaffirmed that the party’s constitution clearly outlines its statutory organs, structures, and committees, none of which include a 'Leadership Council.'
“Our attention has been drawn to reports in sections of the media suggesting that the National Leadership of our great Party approved the inauguration of a Delta State APC ‘Leadership Council,’” the statement read. “We categorically state that no such approval was given. The ‘Leadership Council’ is not a recognized organ, ad-hoc structure, or committee under the APC Constitution.”
This development comes amid internal party restructuring efforts in Delta State, with concerns that unauthorized groups could create confusion among party members. The NWC urged all members of the Delta APC to adhere strictly to the constitutionally approved party structures and avoid any engagements with groups operating outside the party’s legal framework.
Party stakeholders have also been advised to seek clarification from the NWC on matters relating to party administration to prevent misinformation and avoid unnecessary division within the party.
With this clarification, the APC leadership aims to reinforce discipline and unity within its ranks as it prepares for upcoming political activities. The party reassured members of its commitment to due process and proper party administration in all states, including Delta.
