DAILY COURIER – The Court of Appeal, Abuja declared on Thursday that the separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra remained a proscribed terrorist organisation in Nigeria.
DAILY COURIER recalls that Justice Abdu Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had on January 18, 2018, affirmed a 2017 order that proscribed and declared IPOB a terrorist organisation.
Justice Kafarati had on September 20, 2017, made the order proscribing IPOB and designating it as a terrorist group upon an ex parte application by the then Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
Ruling on an appeal filed against the ruling on Thursday, a three-member panel of the appellate court led by Justice Hamma Barka, upheld the judgment of the lower court.
Dismissing the appeal, the court held that the Federal Government acted lawfully in proscribing the group.
