DAILY COURIER - Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to the families of fallen heroes, recognizing their sacrifices for national unity and peace.
Governor Ododo made this pledge during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the World War Cenotaph in Lokoja. The event, marked with solemnity and pride, paid tribute to the bravery and patriotism of Nigeria’s armed forces.
In his address, Governor Ododo highlighted the significance of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a time to honor the contributions of military personnel to nation-building. “This day is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our gallant heroes who laid down their lives for the unity and peace of our country. We owe them a debt of gratitude,” he said.
The governor assured the families of fallen heroes of continued government support, announcing the immediate enrollment of widows and children into the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme. This initiative aims to provide free health insurance coverage for these families, demonstrating the state's commitment to their welfare.
Governor Ododo also extended his support to injured officers and veterans in Kogi State, pledging sustained efforts to ensure their well-being. He called for unity among Nigerians, emphasizing the need to build a nation worthy of the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's dedication to national peace and security, Governor Ododo described the president's "Renewed Hope" agenda as a testament to the government's focus on ensuring the safety and prosperity of all Nigerians.
The ceremony featured the traditional wreath-laying ritual, with Governor Ododo, military commanders, traditional rulers, and representatives of veterans leading tributes to the fallen heroes.
In attendance were members of the public who expressed their gratitude to the armed forces for their service. Many called for continued support to military personnel and their families, underscoring the importance of recognizing their sacrifices.
