DAILY COURIER – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, in a major push towards urban development has commenced the commissioning of 36 newly constructed roads and bridges across the state, a milestone aimed at enhancing connectivity, reducing flooding, and boosting economic activities.
Among the highlights of this infrastructure drive is the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and Bridge, inaugurated on Monday in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area. The project links the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga communities, marking a significant improvement in mobility for residents.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the 36 roads and bridges represent more than physical development; they symbolize progress and inclusivity in line with the administration’s “Greater Lagos” vision.
“The commissioning of these roads and bridges is not just about infrastructure; it’s about connecting lives, fostering unity, and driving economic growth. This is how we make Lagos work for everyone,” the governor said.
The Abiola-Onijemo Link Road boasts advanced infrastructure, including: Reinforced concrete bridges with retaining walls. Dual carriageways and slip roads to improve traffic flow.
Walkways and solar-powered streetlights for enhanced pedestrian safety. Comprehensive drainage systems to mitigate flooding.
These features address long-standing challenges while accommodating the state’s growing population.
As part of the week-long infrastructure rollout, the governor also inspected the newly reconstructed Alapere Pedestrian Bridge, previously destroyed by a heavy-duty vehicle. The bridge has been rebuilt with elevated structures, equipped with CCTV cameras for security, and designed to ensure durability.
Governor Sanwo-Olu called on the community to protect and maintain the bridge, describing it as an asset that belongs to the people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering impactful projects before the year’s end, noting that the commissioning of these 36 roads and bridges fulfills the government’s promise to transform Lagos.
