Port Harcourt — Rivers State Governor Siminalaye Fubara has issued a stern warning to those threatening the peace and stability of the state, pledging to deal decisively with perpetrators of violence and unrest.
The governor made the declaration today while receiving the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry established to investigate the October 7, 2024, arson, killings, and destruction of property across various Local Government Council Secretariats.
Governor Fubara commended Justice I.R. Minakiri and the inquiry team for their dedication and professionalism in uncovering the truth behind the heinous acts.
“The report is a critical step towards ensuring that justice, accountability, and peace are fostered in Rivers State,” Fubara stated.
Zero Tolerance for Violence
In a strongly-worded statement, Governor Fubara vowed that his administration would act swiftly on the commission’s recommendations, promising to release a white paper and ensure that those responsible for the violence face the full force of the law.
“As a government, we will act promptly and decisively on the recommendations. Rivers State deserves better, and we will not tolerate actions that threaten our collective progress,” he warned.
The October 7 attacks resulted in the loss of lives and properties, raising concerns about security and governance in the state. Fubara assured Rivers residents that his administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and promoting harmony.
Commitment to Unity and Progress
The governor urged all stakeholders to focus on building a united and prosperous Rivers State.
“Let us all remain committed to building a united, harmonious, and prosperous Rivers State,” he said, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in fostering peace and development.
The state government’s swift move to release a white paper and implement the recommendations from the report underscores its resolve to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
As the people of Rivers await further government action, Fubara’s message is clear: there will be no room for lawlessness in the state under his watch.
