DAILY COURIER - The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has lauded the bravery, professionalism, and resilience displayed by the agency’s emergency response team in the swift rescue of victims from two separate containerised crashes in Lagos State.
In a statement signed by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC detailed the incidents and highlighted the exceptional response efforts that saved lives and mitigated further harm.
The first accident occurred at 10:50 a.m. on the Apapa-Wharf route, near Flour Mill, approximately six kilometers from Mile 2. It involved two containerized trucks—a red Mack truck and a green Mack truck—both commercial vehicles.
According to the crash investigation report, the collision was caused by brake failure. Four male victims were involved in the crash: One sustained injuries, including cuts and bruises. The other three escaped unhurt.
The swift intervention by the FRSC rescue team ensured that all victims were safely extricated and provided with immediate medical attention.
The second incident occurred on November 25, 2024, along the Euro 65-Signal Barracks route in Mile 2 Oke, Lagos. A Mack truck carrying a 40-foot container lost control and landed on a Toyota Corolla saloon car with the registration number LSD293HJ.
The crash involved two individuals traveling in the Toyota Corolla. The proactive efforts of the FRSC rescue team ensured both occupants were rescued alive, despite the severity of the accident.
In light of these incidents, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the rescue teams for their unwavering commitment to saving lives, particularly as end-of-year travel intensifies. He noted that the successful rescue missions reflected the operatives’ adherence to his directive for heightened professionalism and promptness in accident response.
The Corps Marshal also used the opportunity to admonish drivers and fleet operators to prioritize road safety. He urged drivers to maintain minimum safety standards and emphasized the need for fleet operators to provide adequate training for their drivers to ensure safe road practices.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to promoting road safety, especially during the busy holiday season. "The proactive approaches recorded by our operatives are a testament to the Corps’ unwavering focus on protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads," the statement read.
As part of its end-of-year safety campaign, the FRSC will continue to emphasize the importance of compliance with traffic regulations and the proper maintenance of vehicles to prevent avoidable accidents.
