DAILY COURIER — Nigerians can look forward to safer and freer roads this festive season as the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring smooth traffic flow during the yuletide.
This assurance was given during the end-of-year get-together held at the FRSC National Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
Speaking at the event, Corps Marshal Mohammed attributed the Corps’ renewed vigor to the special logistical support provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He commended the staff for their tireless efforts throughout the year despite various challenges, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining safer highways.
“I cannot thank the staff enough for their sacrifices during the year, but let me assure everyone that in our commitment to taking FRSC to greater heights, I will personally continue to lead from the front in sacrifice as the servant,” he said.
The Corps Marshal announced that payment for the second batch of transfer allowances for affected personnel would begin next week, underscoring his commitment to staff welfare. He also promised to introduce programs aimed at improving the health and working conditions of FRSC personnel.
Addressing strategic stakeholders, Mohammed expressed gratitude for their unwavering support, noting that road safety is a shared responsibility. He called for sustained collaboration, particularly as the nation approaches the busy Christmas and New Year periods characterized by increased vehicular and human traffic.
Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, the Permanent Secretary, General Services, commended the FRSC staff for their resourcefulness in managing road traffic across the country. He applauded the Corps Marshal for organizing the event and recognizing exceptional staff and stakeholders with merit awards.
The SGF assured the Corps of continued government support to address their logistics and welfare needs, urging staff to work harder to ensure smooth and safe movement during the festive period.
The event featured the presentation of merit awards to deserving individuals and organizations for their contributions to road safety. Among the awardees were:
Dr. Nafisa Shehu Mohammed, National President of the Road Safety Officers' Wives Association (ROSOWA).
Sayid Habib, a Marshal from the Lekki Unit Command, Lagos State, recognized for his calmness during a recent provocation incident.
Media organizations and transport unions for their support in promoting FRSC’s ideals.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere was the newly refurbished and rebranded FRSC band, which performed in their new uniforms for the first time. The band dedicated a special performance to Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, leaving the audience in high spirits and optimistic about the coming year.
The event served as a platform to appreciate the sacrifices of FRSC personnel and stakeholders while reiterating the Corps’ commitment to delivering safer roads for Nigerians during the yuletide and beyond.
