DAILY COURIER – His Royal Majesty, the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Azinge, has lauded the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its steadfast dedication to ensuring road safety across Nigeria, with particular commendation for its efforts in Delta State.
The monarch praised the resilience and commitment of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and his team, emphasizing their pivotal role in reducing road crashes and ensuring safer highways nationwide. His Royal Majesty made these remarks during the Corps Marshal's courtesy visit to his palace in Asaba as part of year-end traffic monitoring activities.
Congratulating the Corps Marshal on his appointment, the Asagba urged Nigerians to align with the FRSC's vision to reduce road crashes significantly.
“The Corps’ dedication to ensuring safety on our roads is commendable. It is imperative for everyone to support this vision and rise to the occasion of reducing road crashes,” Professor Azinge stated.
The monarch highlighted the persistent traffic challenges at the Niger bridges, especially during the festive season when an influx of travelers causes significant congestion. Pledging his community's support, he assured the Corps of the readiness of the Asaba people to collaborate in making the roads safer.
“We are committed to partnering with the FRSC to address the traffic challenges and ensure a smoother flow of movement during this festive period and beyond,” the Asagba affirmed.
In his response, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed gratitude to the Asagba for his unwavering support and passion for road safety. He emphasized that the visit was part of FRSC’s efforts to achieve zero fatalities during the festive season, in line with the United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety and Injury Prevention.
“The Niger bridges remain a critical focus due to their notoriety for congestion during the Yuletide. We are committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring safer travel experiences for Nigerians,” Mohammed stated.
He further noted that the FRSC has deployed resources and personnel to monitor highways nationwide, marking the third day of his highway monitoring tour.
The visit underscored the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and government agencies in addressing pressing societal issues. The Asagba’s commitment to supporting FRSC’s initiatives signals a strengthened partnership aimed at fostering safer roads in Delta State and across Nigeria.
