DAILY COURIER - President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to address pressing issues in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. President Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday, November 10, 2024, to join world leaders for the summit, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 11, 2024.
The summit was convened at the invitation of Saudi leaders King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, following last year’s summit in Riyadh.
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to deliver a strong message advocating for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Palestine, urging all parties involved to adopt a peaceful approach to resolving the conflict. Tinubu will call for the revival of the two-state solution, emphasizing it as a viable path toward sustainable peace in the region. His stance reflects Nigeria’s commitment to supporting diplomatic solutions and fostering stability in the Middle East.
President Tinubu’s delegation includes key government officials, demonstrating Nigeria's intent to engage deeply with regional leaders and contribute to international efforts toward peace. Accompanying him are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
This summit provides Nigeria an opportunity to participate in a high-stakes dialogue aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East. With escalating violence and humanitarian concerns, the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit represents a critical forum for leaders to seek collaborative solutions to the crisis.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja following the summit’s conclusion.
