DAILY COURIER — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his victory in Saturday's Ondo State Governorship election. The President also commended the peaceful conduct of the electoral process, which he described as a testament to the political maturity of the state’s residents.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded the participation of candidates from 17 political parties, noting the civility and sense of purpose exhibited during the campaigns and election day.
President Tinubu highlighted the Ondo election as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey. He attributed the success of the election to the orderly conduct of political actors and urged them to sustain this behavior in post-election activities.
"The peaceful nature of this election reflects the maturity of Ondo State's political culture. I commend all the candidates for demonstrating a commitment to civility and democratic principles," Tinubu stated.
The President praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efficiency in organizing the election. He specifically highlighted the electoral body’s achievement of uploading over 98% of results on the same day as the election, which he described as a critical indicator of transparency and preparedness.
"The Ondo State election has proven to be another litmus test of INEC’s capacity. Their early preparations, deployment of staff and materials, and handling of the process have justified the confidence of the electorate," Tinubu said.
Acknowledging the role of security agencies, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Police Force, National Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Youth Service Corps, and the military for their professionalism in maintaining peace and order.
"Their dedication ensured a secure environment that allowed voters to exercise their democratic rights freely and fairly," he noted.
President Tinubu encouraged candidates dissatisfied with the election outcome to seek redress through the judiciary, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal frameworks for resolving disputes.
"I urge all aggrieved parties to explore judicial avenues for any electoral grievances, respecting the rule of law and fostering national unity," he advised.
The President expressed confidence in Lucky Aiyedatiwa's ability to lead Ondo State effectively, building on the foundation laid by the APC. Tinubu called on Ondo residents to support the governor-elect as he embarks on his mandate to deliver inclusive governance and sustainable development.
With Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s victory, APC has reaffirmed its political stronghold in Ondo State, a development that President Tinubu believes reflects the party's continued acceptance among Nigerians.
