DAILY COURIER — The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has celebrated Chidimma Adetshina for her remarkable achievement as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, describing her success as a testament to resilience and determination.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols at NIDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa commended Chidimma for staying focused despite challenges and praised her for making Nigeria proud on the global stage.
The competition, held in Mexico, saw Chidimma representing Nigeria with grace and poise, ultimately earning the title of Miss Africa and Oceania 2024. She finished just behind Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark, who claimed the Miss Universe crown, succeeding the 2023 winner, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.
Dabiri-Erewa reflected on Chidimma’s tumultuous journey, including her controversial withdrawal from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition, where she had advanced to the finals. The withdrawal followed questions about her nationality, which led her to return to Nigeria.
Welcomed back with open arms, Chidimma was embraced by the Silverbird Group, where she represented Taraba State and clinched the Miss Universe Nigeria title. She was subsequently hosted to a grand reception at "The Temple" in Victoria Island, Lagos, attended by prominent figures such as Guy Murray-Bruce, President of the Silverbird Group, and music icon D’banj.
Dabiri-Erewa lauded Chidimma’s determination and brilliance, urging young Nigerians to emulate her patriotism and pride in the country, regardless of challenges.
The Miss Universe 2024 event was one of the most exciting in recent years, showcasing the talents, intelligence, and elegance of women from across the globe. Chidimma’s achievement has positioned Nigeria as a force to reckon with in international pageantry.
Her performance comes amidst the backdrop of her rejection by South Africa, making her triumph all the more significant. As Dabiri-Erewa noted, her success is a clear example of how persistence and a supportive homeland can pave the way for global recognition.
Chidimma’s accomplishment highlights the importance of supporting Nigerians at home and abroad in their pursuits of excellence. As Dabiri-Erewa remarked, her success underscores the indomitable spirit of Nigerians who continue to thrive against the odds.
With this achievement, Chidimma Adetshina has joined the ranks of distinguished Nigerians who have elevated the country’s image on the international stage, reinforcing the value of resilience, talent, and national pride.
