DAILY COURIER - The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has confirmed that its elective congresses will proceed as planned on Saturday, November 16, 2024. This announcement follows a recent court ruling that cleared the party to conduct the congresses without legal hindrance.
The Rivers State High Court vacated an ex-parte order initially restraining the APC from organizing the congresses. The order, stemming from Suit No: PHC/2699/CS/2024 filed by Peter Ohochukwu and another party against APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and five others, had temporarily halted preparations for the congress.
However, the court has now ruled that no legal barriers exist to prevent the party from proceeding.
In a press statement signed by H.E. (Alh.) Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the APC National Organizing Secretary, the party reaffirmed its dedication to due process and adherence to the rule of law.
“The Rivers State High Court has ruled that there is no order preventing the APC from organizing the Rivers State Elective Congress. In light of this development, the APC will proceed with the Congress, reaffirming its commitment to due process and the rule of law,” the statement read.
The Rivers State Elective Congress is a critical milestone in the APC's internal democratic process, allowing party members to elect their leaders at various levels. With the court ruling in favor of the party, stakeholders can now move forward to strengthen the party's structure and prepare for future political engagements.
The APC in Rivers State is optimistic about a peaceful and transparent congress, urging all members to participate actively. The party views the development as a victory for democracy and the rule of law, emphasizing its resolve to uphold democratic principles within its ranks.
The congress, scheduled to take place across designated venues in the state, is expected to draw significant attention as the APC continues its efforts to consolidate its presence in Rivers State.
