DAILY COURIER – President Bola Tinubu has joined Nigerians and the global Yoruba community in celebrating the 50th birthday of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, the Ojaja II, acknowledging his immense contributions to the preservation of Yoruba culture and national unity.
In a statement released by the State House, President Tinubu highlighted the Ooni’s exceptional leadership and maturity since his ascension to the throne at the age of 41, emphasizing his pivotal role in maintaining the rich traditions of the Yoruba people in Ile-Ife, often regarded as the spiritual heart of the Yoruba nation.
The President praised Oba Ogunwusi’s dedication, wisdom, and sense of responsibility as both the paramount ruler of Ile-Ife in Osun State and the spiritual leader of the Yoruba people. He also recognized the monarch’s role as Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, where the Ooni has been a key unifying figure, promoting peace, religious tolerance, and national cohesion.
“Oba Ogunwusi’s leadership has been instrumental in supporting government policies and fostering unity among Nigerians,” the statement read. “His contributions to national peace and his advocacy for youth and women empowerment through education and entrepreneurship are commendable.”
President Tinubu lauded the Ooni’s philanthropic efforts, particularly his initiatives to uplift those in need across Nigeria and beyond. The monarch has been a tireless advocate for the empowerment of women and youth, championing education and entrepreneurship as tools for societal development.
