DAILY COURIER – The United Kingdom Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) conferred the esteemed title of Global Ambassador on two prominent figures within Nigeria's ruling party: Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC National Chairman, and Hon. Tolu Bankole, the National Leader for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
This high-profile ceremony, held at the APC National Headquarters in Abuja today, sought to honour their substantial contributions to the APC’s mission of inclusivity and societal advancement.
The APC UK chapter awarded Hon. Tolu Bankole, a renowned advocate for disability rights, for his unwavering dedication to the empowerment and welfare of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) across Nigeria. Bankole’s recognition as a Global Ambassador underscores his work in championing inclusive policies that address the social, educational, political, and economic needs of PWDs. His advocacy has spurred meaningful policy changes, creating more access to essential resources and broadening opportunities for people with disabilities within Nigerian society.
In his acceptance remarks, Bankole expressed his gratitude for the award, emphasizing his vision for a more inclusive Nigeria. “This honour represents the strength of our community and our ongoing efforts to ensure that Persons With Disabilities have a voice in every sphere of our nation. My commitment remains steadfast, and I am humbled by this recognition,” he said. Over the years, Bankole has earned praise for his relentless push for policies that protect the rights of PWDs, gaining widespread admiration among both domestic and international communities for his advocacy.
The ceremony also celebrated Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, who was named a Global Ambassador for his achievements as the APC National Chairman and his successful efforts to strengthen the party’s reputation as a progressive force. Ganduje’s leadership has been instrumental in steering the APC to become the “party of choice” among Nigerians, through his reforms aimed at promoting unity, transparency, and inclusivity. His tenure has seen a rise in youth and minority engagement within the party, along with a strategic focus on grassroots mobilization.
In a speech accepting the award, Dr. Ganduje commended the APC UK chapter for recognizing the work of party leaders in driving positive change. “This award is not just for me but for every member of the APC who believes in our vision. It is a call to action to continue our pursuit of unity, good governance, and inclusivity across Nigeria,” Ganduje stated. He further pledged to continue working towards a Nigeria where all citizens, irrespective of their background or status, have access to political representation and opportunities for growth.
The APC UK chapter’s recognition of both Ganduje and Bankole comes as the party aims to expand its influence among the Nigerian diaspora and showcase its commitment to social inclusion and political progress. The event attracted members of the Nigerian community in the UK, as well as supporters and dignitaries who celebrated the contributions of these two leaders.
As Global Ambassadors, Ganduje and Bankole are expected to serve as international representatives of the APC's ideals and values. Their new roles underscore the APC’s intent to foster a legacy of inclusivity, both at home and abroad, while highlighting Nigeria's strides towards a more inclusive society. The APC UK chapter expressed its confidence that these awards would inspire more leaders within Nigeria to champion inclusive and progressive causes that benefit all Nigerians.
