DAILY COURIER - As the 2024 governorship election in Edo State draws near, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided crucial updates regarding the collection of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) by registered voters across the state. In a press release issued on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, INEC revealed that out of the 2,629,025 registered voters in Edo, 2,249,780 individuals have collected their PVCs, representing 85.57% of the electorate.
The remaining 379,245 PVCs, which account for 14.43% of the total registered voters, remain uncollected, despite the extended period for PVC collection, which ended on Sunday, September 16, 2024. This statistic will play a significant role in the upcoming election as the number of voters who can participate is directly linked to those who have their PVCs.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, who signed the statement, emphasized that the Commission is committed to transparency and has made available detailed data on PVC collection for all 4,519 polling units in Edo State. This information is now publicly accessible on INEC's official website, allowing political parties, candidates, and interested citizens to review the number of collected and uncollected PVCs at each polling unit.
