DAILY COURIER – Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist, Mr. Mathias Omale, a highly respected figure in the media community of the state. Omale, who was a senior member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kogi State, passed away on Monday in Lokoja, prompting a wave of tributes from colleagues and admirers of his work.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo extended his heartfelt condolences to the leadership of the NUJ and the entire media fraternity in Kogi State. He acknowledged that Mr. Omale’s passing marks a significant loss, not just to his family, but to journalism in the state, describing his death as a “great loss to the profession.”
Governor Ododo highlighted the profound impact that Omale had on journalism in Kogi, noting that his dedication, integrity, and hard work during his active years made him a role model for many. "Mr. Omale was a committed professional who contributed immensely to the development of journalism in Kogi State. He was a beacon of truth and professionalism, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations of journalists," the governor remarked.
The late Mathias Omale was a long-serving staff member of the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, where he retired as the Deputy Director of the News Department. Governor Ododo praised Omale for his exceptional service at the corporation, recalling how his mentorship shaped many young journalists in the state. His leadership and guidance helped build a generation of media practitioners who continue to serve in various capacities today.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Governor Ododo expressed personal sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased, offering prayers for comfort during this difficult time. “I pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Mr. Omale, and may God grant his family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the Governor said.
The death of Mr. Omale has left a void in the Kogi State media landscape, with many remembering him for his pivotal role in promoting ethical journalism and shaping the future of broadcasting in the state.
