DAILY COURIER – In a significant move to enhance the skills and capacity of its personnel, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a comprehensive training programme for 341 Unit and Outpost Commanders. The initiative, aimed at improving traffic enforcement and management, road safety education, data analysis, leadership development, and digital literacy, is being held at the FRSC Academy in Udi, Enugu State.
According to a statement today by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Corps Commander, Corps Public Education Officer, the training forms part of a broader leadership development programme introduced by the current leadership of the Corps, in line with its administrative policy to foster innovation and excellence in road safety management. Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Hyginus Omeje, representing Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, officially opened the training, reiterating the crucial role that Unit and Outpost Commanders play in enforcing traffic regulations and advancing the FRSC’s mission.
During the opening ceremony, ACM Omeje praised the commanders for their contributions to the Corps, describing them as invaluable assets. "Unit and Outpost Commands are integral to the Corps. They play a key role in enforcing compliance with traffic rules and regulations and contribute immensely to the actualization of the FRSC's mandate," Omeje said. He also noted the Corps' dedication to creating an enabling environment for growth and innovation across all field commands.
The Corps Marshal, in his remarks delivered by ACM Omeje, emphasized that the training programme is designed to equip FRSC personnel with the latest skills and best practices in road safety management. He highlighted that by investing in the professional development of its commanders, the FRSC is making a long-term commitment to improving road safety across Nigeria.
"This capacity-building programme reflects our commitment to repositioning the FRSC as a leading road safety agency, fully equipped to tackle the complex challenges of modern road safety management," the Corps Marshal stated. The training will include a mix of theoretical sessions, practical exercises, workshops, and mentoring, all led by both in-house and international experts.
The Corps Marshal also urged the commanders to leverage modern technology, particularly the FRSC Mobile Application and the National Crash Information Recording System Portal, which are designed to streamline feedback processes with the public. The use of these technological tools, he noted, will enhance efficiency at all levels of command.
The launch of this training comes on the heels of a recently concluded programme for Road Marshal Operatives at the FRSC training institution in Shendam, Plateau State, signaling the Corps' continued commitment to broadening the scope of personnel development.
The FRSC leadership believes that this series of training initiatives will not only strengthen its enforcement capabilities but also ensure that Nigeria’s road safety standards are in line with global best practices.
