DAILY COURIER — Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, emphasizing the critical role of digital technology in driving sustainable development. The governor made this statement during the Grand Parade, which marked the culmination of the weeklong celebrations of the International Day of Youth.
Speaking to a vibrant gathering of young people, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the theme of this year’s event, "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development," and underscored its alignment with his administration's ongoing efforts to harness digital technology as a tool for youth empowerment.
As part of his administration's commitment, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the winners of the Amplifier Business Clinic and Pitch Contest, an initiative designed to support young entrepreneurs in Lagos. Eight finalists were selected from a competitive pool, with a total of N10 million awarded in grants to help scale their businesses. Maryam Atolagbe emerged as the grand prize winner, receiving N2.5 million to further develop her business venture.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also took the opportunity to discuss several key initiatives under his administration aimed at equipping Lagos’ youth with essential digital skills. These initiatives include the establishment of technology hubs across the state and the Lagos State Employability Support Project, both of which provide young people with training and opportunities to thrive in the digital economy.
Additionally, the governor highlighted the importance of youth leadership programs such as the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, which is dedicated to grooming the next generation of leaders in Lagos. Through this academy and other similar programs, young people are being prepared for leadership roles and are given platforms to ensure their voices are heard in the decision-making processes that shape their future.
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded his remarks by reaffirming his administration’s dedication to creating a supportive environment where Lagos’ youth can flourish, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the state's development.
The event, which celebrated the potential and achievements of young people in Lagos, was seen as a significant milestone in the governor’s broader strategy to leverage youth dynamism for the state's progress.
