DAILY COURIER - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the registration of new voters ahead of the forthcoming Edo and Ondo State governorship elections. Following the completion of the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) process, the number of newly registered voters stands at 119,206 for Edo State and 58,708 for Ondo State.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee on Monday, 5th August 2024.
These figures exclude the 8,847 applications for inter-State transfers into Edo State and the 3,132 into Ondo State from other regions. Applications for transfers within the states are already included in the existing voter register. INEC plans to integrate these new figures with the current register and will release the final comprehensive voter register for both states in the coming days.
Detailed analysis of the new voters, broken down by local government areas, gender, age, occupation, and disability status, is now available on INEC's website and social media platforms.
