DAILY COURIER — In response to the planned nationwide protest, Aare Hon Tolu Bankole, the National Leader for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a statement urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue. Bankole emphasized the importance of avoiding a repeat of the violence that marred the EndSARS movement.
“Protests, while a fundamental democratic right, must be conducted in a manner that ensures the safety and well-being of all citizens,” Bankole stated. He cautioned against the potential for demonstrations to be hijacked and escalate into violence, stressing the need for constructive engagement with government officials.
Highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address the nation’s challenges, Bankole outlined several key policies aimed at revitalizing the economy and improving living standards for all Nigerians:
Economic Diversification: President Tinubu’s administration has focused on diversifying the economy beyond oil, investing in agriculture, technology, and manufacturing to create sustainable job opportunities.
Infrastructure Development: Significant investments in infrastructure are underway, including improvements in transportation networks, energy sector reforms, and urban development projects designed to boost economic activity and enhance public services.
Social Welfare Programs: The administration has introduced various initiatives to support vulnerable populations, such as enhanced healthcare services and education reforms aimed at improving access and quality.
Anti-Corruption Measures: President Tinubu’s commitment to tackling corruption is central to his economic policy, ensuring that public resources are used efficiently and transparently.
Bankole noted that persons with disabilities are among the most vulnerable in society and that any violence or disruption from protests could disproportionately affect them. He underscored the need for peaceful methods of engagement to ensure their safety and well-being.
“I call on all stakeholders to channel their energies into meaningful dialogue and collaboration with the government, rather than risking escalation into violence,” Bankole urged. “Together, we can work towards positive change while safeguarding the rights and lives of every Nigerian.”
The statement by Aare Hon Tolu Bankole emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace and fostering dialogue during times of dissent, aiming to ensure the protection and well-being of all citizens, particularly the most vulnerable.
