DAILY COURIER - Alhaji Shehu Gabam, National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has called for calm and understanding among Nigerians amidst the controversy surrounding the SAMOA agreement. In a statement released on Monday, Gabam appealed to citizens to remain calm and emphasized that Nigeria is their only home.
Gabam commended the public for their strong opposition to the agreement, which reflects their commitment to upholding religious, cultural, and traditional values based on high moral principles and standards. However, he cautioned the government against accepting "Greek gifts" that may compromise Nigeria's sovereignty and sanctity.
The SDP chairman urged the federal government to prioritize building trust with the people by fulfilling its promises of providing better socioeconomic opportunities and ensuring a secure environment. He warned against exploiting the country's resources without benefiting the masses, leading to a loss of purpose, ambition, and determination to achieve greatness.
The SAMOA agreement, aimed at promoting economic cooperation and development between the European Union and African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries, has sparked concerns about introducing LGBTQ practices into the country. The federal government has denied these claims.
Gabam's statement seeks to reassure the public and encourage the government to prioritize their needs and concerns, promoting a balanced approach that preserves cultural and religious values while pursuing economic development.
