DAILY COURIER – The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has fixed October 5 to conduct elections for chairman and councilorship seats for the 23 local government areas in the State.
Chairman of RSIEC, Adolphus Enebeli, made the announcement during a meeting with stakeholders in Port Harcourt, on Monday.
The Commission also released its guidelines in view of the conduct of the LGA elections in the state.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara had on June 18 replaced 23 outgoing LG chairs whose tenure expired on June 17 with a caretaker committee to maintain the position, pending the conduct of polls.
The Governor had in a statewide broadcast on June 18, directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to take charge of the councils following the expiration of the tenure of elected council officials on June 17, 2024.
The Governor, subsequently on June 19, appointed Caretaker Committee Chairmen to oversee the administration of the 23 local councils in the State.
