DAILY COURIER - In a significant move to bolster agricultural productivity and support disadvantaged groups, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has inaugurated a credit support scheme targeting youths, women, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). The initiative aims to enhance productivity and agricultural supply within the state's poultry value chain.
During the ceremony held at the Kogi State Government House in Lokoja, Governor Ododo commended the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the World Bank Group for launching the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project. He described the initiative as transformative for the state's agricultural sector.
Governor Ododo emphasized the state's commitment to leveraging its strategic location, vast arable land, and abundant human resources to achieve the L-PRES project's objectives. He underscored the administration's dedication to enhancing productivity and ensuring food security, aligning with his campaign promises.
Timothy Ojomah, the state commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, highlighted the positive impact of the credit supply initiative on the welfare of Kogi's residents through improved livestock productivity. Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, the state coordinator of the L-PRES project, noted that the initiative would continue to empower women and youths in the agricultural sector by providing credit support to entrepreneurs in the poultry value chain.
Dr. Abdullahi Ozomata, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Multilateral and Donor Agencies, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to maximize the opportunities presented by the state government and its partners.
The L-PRES project, a collaboration between the World Bank and the Kogi State government, has already provided credit support to 500 women and youth farmers in the poultry value chain across Kogi State.
