DAILY COURIER – Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu has been named the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, following the demise of his predecessor, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who passed away on July 25, 2024, after a brief illness.
Chukwu’s emergence was formalized during the Imeobi meeting held in Enugu on Saturday, according to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia.
He is to complete the remaining 27 days of Imo State’s tenure, which concludes on January 10, 2025.
The statement highlighted the recent succession challenges faced by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, beginning with the death of Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, CON, in 2022.
To fill the vacancy left by Obiozor, Imo State presented Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who was sworn in on April 30, 2023, under the doctrine of necessity. However, Iwuanyanwu’s passing in July 2024 necessitated yet another leadership transition.
The selection of Nze Chukwu was facilitated by the Imo State chapter of Ohanaeze, led by Barrister C.J. Ihemedu, and presented to the Imeobi Ohanaeze for ratification. His nomination was endorsed by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Chairman of the Imo Council of Elders, and seconded by Chief Simon Okeke (Ochendo).
In his motion, Ilomuanya praised Chukwu’s intellectual and leadership capabilities, describing him as a “cerebral thinker with sterling qualities.”
He outlined Chukwu’s impressive academic and professional credentials, including degrees and certifications from prestigious institutions such as Templeton College, Oxford University; Harvard University; the University of Bristol; the University of Lagos; and Galilee College, Tivon, Israel.
Chukwu, a seasoned management executive and entrepreneurship development consultant, brings extensive experience and strategic insight to the role. His appointment is expected to bolster Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s mission of fostering unity and advocating for the interests of the Igbo people worldwide.
