DAILY COURIER - The Association of Ondo Media Practitioners (AOMP) has conferred the prestigious title of Grand Patron on Hon. Ifeoluwa Babajide Ehindero, a distinguished lawmaker representing Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State. This honor recognizes his unwavering dedication to the welfare and development of journalists from Ondo State and across Nigeria.
The conferment ceremony took place during AOMP’s annual end-of-year corporate event held in Abuja. Themed “Ondo State Economic Development: Role of Media,” the event blended celebration with advocacy, highlighting the media's pivotal role in societal progress.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Ehindero expressed heartfelt appreciation for the recognition while stressing the importance of health and well-being among media professionals. He called on journalists to prioritize regular health checks and mental wellness, emphasizing the demanding nature of their work.
“Our media practitioners are indispensable to the progress of our society, but we must remember that health is wealth. I encourage you to take regular breaks, undergo routine medical check-ups, and adopt practices that promote both mental and physical well-being,” Hon. Ehindero stated.
He further noted that journalists often overlook their health due to the nature of their profession and urged them to adopt healthier lifestyles.
A highlight of the event was Hon. Ehindero’s announcement of an educational scholarship for the daughter of the late journalist, Mr. John Olasunkanmi Oba, a former AOMP member. Hon. Ehindero described Mr. Oba as a committed professional who left an indelible mark on the media industry.
“This scholarship is a tribute to the legacy of Mr. John Oba, a man who gave so much to the media industry. I hope that his daughter will achieve her dreams and carry forward the values he stood for,” he said, receiving a standing ovation.
AOMP Chairman, Mr. Timothy Sola Akingboye, affirmed that Hon. Ehindero had taken responsibility for the education of Mr. Oba’s daughter, who is now pursuing her studies at a university, courtesy of the lawmaker’s support.
The event also featured remarks from the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, represented by Chief Obinna Nwaka. He commended Hon. Ehindero’s commitment to journalists' welfare, describing the Grand Patron title as a testament to his dedication to the media industry.
“Hon. Ifeoluwa Babajide’s conferment as Grand Patron is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the media industry,” the minister remarked.
AOMP President, Mr. Akingboye, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to safeguard journalists' well-being.
“Our members often work in high-pressure environments that can take a toll on their health. Hon. Ehindero’s message serves as a timely reminder for all of us to prioritize self-care while fulfilling our professional duties,” he stated.
The event also honoured other distinguished figures from Ondo State, including Grace Ike, the newly elected NUJ Chairman, who received an AOMP excellence award for her contributions to the media profession.
The evening provided an opportunity for attendees to network, engage in discussions on the media’s role in economic development, and celebrate the achievements of Ondo State indigenes in various capacities.
Hon. Ehindero pledged continued support for initiatives that promote the welfare of journalists and ensure the sustainability of the profession.
The event concluded on a high note, with attendees lauding Hon. Ehindero’s generosity and advocacy for media practitioners. His scholarship initiative and emphasis on health awareness underscored his enduring commitment to the media community and its future.
