DAILY COURIER - In a bid to enhance road safety and reduce traffic accidents during the festive season, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has mandated the immediate activation of mobile court operations across the country.
This directive was conveyed in a press statement released by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on December 18, 2024.
The initiative forms part of the FRSC’s proactive measures to ensure sanity on Nigeria’s highways during the end-of-year celebrations and beyond. According to the Corps Marshal, mobile court operations are essential in enforcing traffic laws, as they facilitate the prompt prosecution of offenders, thereby acting as a deterrent to potential violators.
Commanding Officers nationwide have been tasked with the responsibility of operationalizing the mobile courts in their respective jurisdictions. They are expected to collaborate closely with the judiciary and other relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless prosecution of traffic offenders. This effort aims to create an efficient system where offenders are swiftly tried and penalized according to the law.
As part of the preparation for these operations, the Corps Marshal has also emphasized the importance of robust public enlightenment campaigns. These campaigns will educate road users on the need to comply with traffic laws and the consequences of violations.
Shehu Mohammed urged drivers and vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and that all necessary documents, including driver’s licenses and vehicle licenses, are up to date. He stressed that adherence to established traffic rules and regulations is non-negotiable and warned that violators would face prosecution without exception.
“No driver will be spared if arrested going against the law,” the statement read, underscoring the FRSC’s zero-tolerance policy toward traffic violations.
The activation of mobile court operations is expected to strengthen the FRSC’s ongoing efforts to reduce road traffic crashes, particularly during the festive season, which typically sees a spike in road travel. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and the general public in achieving safer roads nationwide.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads for all Nigerians and called on stakeholders to support its mission to reduce road crashes and fatalities.
