Five soldiers killed in BH/ISWAP ambush in Borno
DAILY COURIER - The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the loss of five soldiers during a surprise attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Gubio Local Government Area, Borno State. The attack targeted troops deployed for stabilization operations and resulted in 10 injuries and four soldiers missing in action.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed that several terrorists were neutralized during the engagement, and weapons were recovered. However, the terrorists burned down a gun truck, three tactical combat vehicles, and an excavator during their assault.
A reinforcement team, supported by air components, has been dispatched to track the terrorists' escape routes. The DHQ assured the public that the military remains committed to ending terrorism despite the setback.
In a statement of condolence, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum described the attack as a reminder of the brutality of Boko Haram and extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the fallen soldiers.
7 NSCDC officers missing after ambush in Kaduna
A convoy of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers was ambushed on Monday, November 18, in the Farin-Kasa area of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The attack, reportedly carried out by over 200 armed Boko Haram insurgents, left seven officers missing.
The convoy, part of the Commandant-General’s Critical Infrastructure Monitoring Team, was returning from a surveillance mission to a power installation site in Niger State. According to NSCDC spokesperson DCC Afolabi Babawale, the team valiantly repelled the attackers, neutralizing over 50 insurgents. Despite their efforts, chaos ensued, leading to casualties and the disappearance of several officers.
Injured personnel are receiving medical attention, while the NSCDC has launched an urgent search for the missing officers. Commandant-General Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi condemned the attack, emphasizing the Corps’ determination to safeguard national assets despite rising threats.
Twin attacks in Anambra claim five lives
Unidentified gunmen launched coordinated attacks on two communities in Anambra State on Monday, leaving five people dead, including three vigilante operatives. The attacks occurred in Abatete, Idemili North LGA, and Ukpo, Dunukofia LGA, within an hour of each other.
At Abatete, the assailants, traveling in unregistered SUVs, killed three vigilantes and injured the town’s President-General, who is now hospitalized. Shortly after, a second attack at Ukpo Roundabout claimed the lives of a vigilante operative and a motorcycle rider.
The Anambra State Police Command, led by Commissioner Nnaghe Obono Itam, has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, disclosed that police teams are intensifying efforts to bring the attackers to justice.
These incidents have left the affected communities in shock, with calls for increased security presence to prevent further violence.
